Culinary professional and founder of Gourmet India (India’s social network on food, drink and travel), Suresh Hinduja has always approached food with an emphasis on presenting traditional recipes. Having authored the Times of India Food & Nightlife Guide, Bangalore (2011-2018), his in-depth knowledge about food and its origins is one of his many strengths. His roots in the Shikharpur district near the banks of the Indus River has allowed him to collect and perfect authentic Sindhi recipes, bringing the knowledge and the flavours to today’s foodies.

A Taste Of An Endangered Cuisine

The Legend Of Sindh is a 10 day food festival aimed at reviving the forgotten recipes from pre-partition India. It celebrates obscure Sindhi flavours, traditional recipes and unknown cooking styles. Headlined by Suresh Hinduja himself, I got a glimpse into the contribution of Sindhi culture and its influences in Indian cuisine. It was fascinating to see and experience a cuisine that has kept its distinct identity alive despite being scattered after the partition. Some of the traditional recipes were showcased for the first time.

The vegetarian, non-vegetarian set menus use rare ingredients to highlight signature dishes like Teevarn, Kutiyal Murgh, Handi Biryani and more!

Teevarn (woodfire mutton curry) and Kutiyal Murgh

Traditional Sindhi Thali with wheat and millet Tandoori Rotis, Bajra Khichdi, Sindhi Curry, Vadi Crumble, Methi Machi and more!

Handi Biryani (slow cooked pot biryani – chicken and vegetarian)

The Great Sindh Dessert Platter (featuring Thandai Mousse)

It was a delicious sensory journey. To hear about the folklore behind some of the dishes while eating them was a great way to truly understand the cultural significance of Sindhi cuisine.
